James Gunn is returning to the MCU this year as long-awaited work is underway after a long stint with Disney that led to a recent job at DC Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 And the accompanying Disney+ holiday deals. Filming is currently underway in Atlanta to get the entire Guardians gang back in action – including Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Dave Bautista’s Drax and more.
The Disney+ holiday spectacle and big-screen blockbuster trilogy will be filmed back-to-back, setting up a streaming special for the holiday season ahead of The Guardian’s return to theaters in May 2023.
James Gunn has been keeping secrets about what to expect from the holiday special, but says it will be under 40 minutes.Despite the short runtime, the director previously called it critical viewing roll. 3as well as rumors pointing to some surprising celebrity guest stars.
As filming progresses, The Direct can now exclusively offer a fresh perspective on the production of holiday action sequences.
Guardians return to Earth in holiday kit
The Direct has exclusive access to new set photos of James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy The Atlanta production reveals festive action sequences on Earth.
The Atlanta community has painted the scene with holiday decorations, and a Beverly Hills police car is parked neatly outside (for now).
A police car has reappeared outside another festival house directly across the street, this time upside down.
A closer look at the flipped police car reveals that there are seats on the roof that can be used during stunts.
The damaged car is seen from another angle, it is equipped and ready to perform stunts.
Fans can get a better look at the retro decor outside their Atlanta home, which will almost certainly double in another location.
Previous reports suggested that the Atlanta Country Club set was designed to mimic a neighborhood in Beverly Hills, California, supported by a police car from the city.
All five photos were taken in Atlanta by Grant Mariel.
Why did the Guardians return to Earth?
Given the nearby festive decorations, the newly discovered photo of the scene is almost certainly from Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialinstead of Volume 3. The Disney+ special is currently filming in Atlanta with the James Gunn-led big-screen blockbuster.
Beverly Hills is one of California’s most exclusive cities and home to many Hollywood stars, which is intriguing given the rumors that Kevin Bacon was involved. Dave Bautista’s Drax stunt double, Gary Peebles, also reportedly took part in the festive action sequence, but who knew it would cause the cop car to flip.
At the moment, there is no clear indication of what will bring the Guardians back to Earth, especially given Star-Lord’s longstanding distaste for his home planet. Contrary to the usual Guardians of the Galaxy action, perhaps the Earth setting could be used to lower the production cost of a one-off Disney+ special.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Will release exclusively on Disney+ this holiday season.
